No-Shave November Follow-Up
This November, the Men’s Activism Program got hairy to promote consent! Their No-Shave November Campaign encouraged men to grow a beard for the entire month. When asked why they had stopped shaving, the men would explain that they were doing so to raise awareness for the necessity of gaining consent before sexual activity. Through tabling, promoting the event through friends, and a Facebook event, over 100 men signed the No-Shave Pledge. Many of them were given t-shirts and pins provided by the MA Program, that said “Ask Me About My Beard.” The month-long campaign culminated in a Beard-Off event held at the Inter-Cooperative Council’s Education Center, where participants ate pizza, played Beard Jeopardy, and voted for their favorite facial hair. Felix Shapiro, one of the MAs, won Best Beard by a landslide. The Men’s Activism Program anticipates making the event bigger and better next year, as they would like to make No-Shave November for Consent an annual campaign.
