Maya Dusenbery, an editor of the blog Feministing, was invited by SAPAC’s Peer Education Program to speak Thursday, April 11th about the portrayal of women in the media and how it is influenced by rape culture.
Once again this year, SAPAC is pleased to announce that it will be able to sponsor four to six students to attend the 2013 National Young Feminist Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. from March 23rd to 25th, 2013.
SAPAC is proud to have two generations of University of Michigan students committed to doing work on primary prevention of sexual violence on college campuses. As part of our commitment to continuing our work, SAPAC would like to welcome the 'I Will' campaign to the conversation on preventing sexual assault at the University of Michigan. We’d like to take the time to thank all participants in the campaign for joining in on this work. Please like the I Will campaign on Facebook and enjoy its first PSA, which demonstrates the campaign’s cross-campus support. Consider the I Will campaign's question: "What will you do to help end sexual violence?"
Come support survivors at SAPAC's Speak Out event. Speak Out will take place on Thursday November 8, 7:00-9:00 pm, in the Ballroom of the Michigan Union.
SAPAC professional staff members have chosen to speak out on this matter because believe it is important to share accurate information about pregnancy following sexual assault .
The intersection of rape culture and body image is a topic that is not nearly talked about as much as it should be. While there are many conversations on campus regarding both issues, there is not something that ties the two together in a way that educates and informs people. Separately, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center and Body Peace Corps work on behalf of what each organization focuses on.
Five SAPAC attendees put together their thoughts on the SAPAC blog, "The SAPAC Voice." The post is titled, "Thoughts on the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference."
Several SAPAC student staff and volunteers have been recognized with two awards this year. The Peer Education Program received the "Innovation or Research" award and Carley Flanery, Co-Coordinator of the Peer Education Program, received the "Most Impactful Performace on the Campus Community" award. The awards were presented during a ceremony on March 28 in the Michigan Union Ballroom.
The Women's Studies Department is seeking nominations for our inaugural Feminist Practice Award. The deadline is Monday, April 2. Self-nominations are welcome.
