Men's Activism

Men's Activism Raises Money for SafeHouse Through Video Game Tournament

The Men’s Activism Program hosted a Super Smash Bros tournament called Smash for Safehouse on March 31, 2012. Thirty-five participants competed for the top prize of a Kindle 4G as well as the glory of Super Smash Bros supremacy. The MAs worked closely with UMSmash, a student group on campus who frequently put on similar tournaments; this group provided Gamecubes, controllers, and a program to create brackets. All proceeds from the entry fee went to buy games, controllers, and other equipment for children staying at Safehouse.

Men's Activism Thanks Baits II

The Men’s Activism Program was honored to receive a donation of $1000 from Baits II at their prom-style event Balling on Sunday, April 1st. Baits II’s residence hall council is invested in teaching others about healthy relationships, and decided to invite the Men’s Activism Program as well as the Peer Educators to Balling to talk about the work they do and meet Baits residents. The Men’s Activism Program would like to thank Baits II, as well as VOICES, Baits I, Couzens, Stockwell and West Quad hall councils for being so generous and choosing to support their mission.

Men's Activism Volunteer Program

The Men’s Activism Program is the newest of the three volunteer programs at SAPAC.  The group is open to all students, regardless of gender, and is focused on educating men on issues surrounding sexual and relationship violence.  The Men’s Activism Program hopes to show men throughout the university that they play an essential role in ending sexual assault.  They do so through various innovative means designed to reach a population that is often unaware of the role they could play in fighting against these issues.  Some of the events that the MA program is involved in are the T

Workshops

Upon request, SAPAC provides educational programs on sexual violence issues and systems of oppression as they relate to sexual violence for the entire University community: students, staff, and faculty. Programs can be facilitated by SAPAC Peer Educators or professional staff. Training programs for faculty and staff and departments can be designed to fit program needs.

Cosponsoring Events

There are many individuals out there that have made it their career to talk to students about men's role in sexual assault and how society has conditioned them to possibly think differently. The MA Program will be working to get these speakers to come to campus and cosponsor the event with other groups.

Men's Workshop

The Men’s Activism Program has created a highly interactive workshop in which MA facilitators and groups of male U-M students discuss typical misperceptions of sexual and relationship violence and attempt to dispel those "rape myths" through dialogue.  Through this innovative format, the program hopes to reach men without blaming or alienating potential male allies.  These workshops will begin with freshmen groups at the beginning of the Fall 2007 academic term. Details for this workshop will be posted on this website soon.
