Survivors of Sexual Assault Handbook

Receiving immediate and follow-up medical attention is one of the most important things that you can do for yourself if you have been sexually assaulted. You may have injuries that need to be treated, and you may want to be tested for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

SAPAC will have information about University of Michigan emergency room hospital procedures or how to utilize University Health Services. A friend, relative, or advocate from SAPAC can accompany you to the University of Michigan hospital. You do not have to do this alone!  Should you choose to seek medical care outside of Ann Arbor, feel free to call the SAPAC crisis line at 734-936-3333 and an advocate can talk you through what to expect.
