Bystander Intervention & Community Engagement (BICE) Volunteer Program

Column 1

What is BICE?

The Bystander Intervention and Community Engagement program is SAPAC’s secondary prevention education volunteer program.

What is Secondary Prevention?

Secondary Prevention is all about taking action before harm occurs. Our goal is to prevent harm through direct action and instill active bystander skills into all individuals. Secondary prevention asks the question, “what can I do to help?” and finds avenues for intervening in safe and effective ways through noticing, interpreting, assuming responsibility and acting accordingly.

What are BICE’s main events/workshops offered?

Throughout a program/academic year BICE offers peer-to-peer Bystander Intervention Training for student groups across campus as well as hosting various events including but not limited to:

  • Better Bystander Month
  • SAPAC Presents

Who leads BICE?

Staff Advisor: Kelsey Cavanagh-Strong

Student Co-Coordinators: Emily Warden & Kaylee Chan
